It is an eclectic mix of comedy, circus, burlesque and live music – with a healthy dose of audience participation thrown in.
South-East region acts that will perform on the night include the magical Rhys the Trickster, Liz Brennen, fLiNG Physical Theatre’s Rob McCredie and Gabrielle Rose, and Buddha and the Bomb led by Phil Moriarty from The Gadflys.
Local performers will be joined on stage by some of Wollongong’s finest variety entertainers such as the glorious hooping phenomenon Heidi Hoops, the hilarious cabaret duo Kiki and Pascal, and the stupendous actor and singer Drew Fairley as MC.
The Vault Cabaret debuted in 2004 at the Vault Venue in Port Kembla, just south of Wollongong.
The cabaret was created under the direction of Merrigong Theatre Company’s artistic associate Anne-Louise Rentell, who developed the nights as a regular performance opportunity for local artists in a former nightclub called The Vault in Port Kembla.
“I think the cabaret format is a great way to showcase the work of emerging and established performers in a supportive environment; it’s fun, sometimes risky, and always original,” Rentell said.
“The Vault Cabaret’s continued success over the past 10 years is due not only to the talent and continuing commitment of local artists but also to the loyal local audiences who have become an integral part of the event.”
Since then, the Vault Cabaret has forged its place in the heart of the cultural landscape as a bi-monthly event showcasing a diverse mix of emerging and established artists from the region and far beyond.
Notable performers and musicians who’ve come through the ranks include Drew Fairley, Heidi Hillier, Mikelangelo, The Birdmann, Nick Rheinberger, Circus Monoxide, The Glamma Rays, Patrick Lyons, Gordon Watt, Frumpus, Miles Merrill and more.
The Vault Cabaret will be at Candelo Town Hall on Saturday from 8pm with tickets $20.
It is recommended for ages 15 and up as it may contain strong language, sexual references and material that can offend.
Bookings can be made here or by calling 4224 5999.
Supper will be available during intermission for $6 courtesy of the Candelo Tennis Club.
