Crime journalist Adam Shand will take to Perth airwaves next year, after securing the coveted role as Radio 6PR's Drive presenter.

The Victorian reporter is known for his coverage of Melbourne's gangland wars and won a Walkley Award for his work in 2007. He has also authored four books about Australia's criminal underworld and outlaw motorcycle gangs.
"I'm thrilled to be given this opportunity. The future of radio is strong and I'm attracted to the scope and range of stories a city like Perth has to offer," he said.
Shand previously worked for the Nine Network, the now-defunct magazine The Bulletin, The Australian newspaper and The Australian Financial Review.
He is also a regular commentator on 6PR's Sunday program, hosted by Bob Maumill.
Current host Paul Murray announced his departure from the station last month after more than a decade in the hosting chair.
It's understood Murray will continue in the drive timeslot until the end of the year and will "return in a fill-in capacity" in 2015.
"Adam ticked all of the boxes we were looking for in a replacement for Paul Murray," 6PR general manager Martin Boylen said.
"He has a strong background in journalism, an inquiring mind and will bring a ton of energy and enthusiasm to this important shift."
Shand will take up the role from 12 January.
