Do you celebrate Halloween? Does it have any relevance in Australia?
Gabrielle Smedley, Cobargo
Our family doesn’t celebrate it. But I have a friend who has celebrated it since she was about three and when she talks about it, we say no that’s an American holiday, which kind of annoys her. I don’t think it has any relevance in Australia, it’s never been really big here.
Zack Jenkin, Eden
I don’t do anything for Halloween as I don’t think it’s relevant in Australia. Nowadays it doesn’t follow it’s original meaning anyway. My girlfriend is going trick or treating, but I don’t see the point in it.
Nicola Brooks, Singapore (and children Ari and Isabella)
My children do celebrate Halloween, only because we live in Singapore among a lot of ex-pats and it is especially big with the Americans over there. There is trick or treating and special activities for Halloween at the kids’ school. There are pumpkins and costumes everywhere in the shops. When we left Australia to live in Singapore five years ago it didn’t seem that popular here but I have noticed there seems to be a lot more interest in it here now.
Enid Donnolley, Eden
I usually close the door and don’t answer it at Halloween! It’s an American tradition to celebrate. It is popular among the young ones and they can have fun dressing up, but it’s not for me.
