It is a personal best for Rollinson, and has been entered in the club’s annual catch and release championship.
Not everyone is having as much luck as Rollinson, but patient anglers are finding some spots.
Reef fishing remains good for snapper and morwong, but has been very difficult with the inclement weather.
Sand and tiger flathead remain plentiful at the 20 fathom mark in many places, especially near Tathra.
Local estuaries are firing up with big flathead reported from the Bega River and Merimbula’s Top Lake.
Trevally, bream and whiting can be caught in the estuaries.
A close second is the beaches and rocks for salmon if conditions are right.
However, think seriously about life jackets for rock fishing.
Members are hoping for the weather to improve soon.
Now is the time to get your gear up to speed or replace it in time for game fishing.
Yellowfin tuna are expected in November.
Also coming in November is the changes to bag limits on a number of species.
Sea flathead, trevally, tailor, luderick and bream have been cut by 50 per cent to just 10 fish per angler.
It is interesting to note that the Department of Primary Industries review for bag-limits, quotes; “recreational anglers only bag-out 1 per cent of the time” - this is used as an argument for reducing bag limits – go figure!
Coming events include the MBGALAC and Tackle World tri-estuary challenge involving Merimbula and Pambula Lakes and the Bega River, on November 15-16.
The emphasis for this tournament is “catch and release”.
Inquiries and entry forms are available from Lindon Thompson on 0411 873 880.
Prizes of over $1000 cash are on offer, which is to be doubled if there are 40 or more teams entered.
There is also the annual jackpot prize – now $300 - for the largest Jewfish, sponsored by Pier One Bar and Grill.
Kris Larsen and John Whittaker are scheduled to host the Spencer Park clubhouse from 6.30 pm Friday with happy hour followed by the fishing report and raffle.
Members and guests are all invited so take along family and friends.
Keep your rods bent!
