On Friday, a group of Cancer Council NSW volunteers will be holding a stall at Ayres Walkway, Bega selling pink merchandise in order to raise awareness and funds for all women’s cancers. 

Teddies in their pyjamas, tutus and sport clothes will be sold, along with pens, pins, key rings and more, all in the colour scheme of – you guessed it – pink. 

“It’s a chance to get out and pull everyone together to unite in pink,” Cancer Council volunteer Glenn Cotter said.

“Leave your serious face at home, and come down and raise some money.

“We hope to get as many people as we can of course - the more who come, the better.”

Mr Cotter said the pink ribbon is a universally recognised symbol, which honours those who are fighting cancer, have fought cancer as well as those who lost the battle. 

He himself wears two ribbons, as his wife is twice a survivor. 

After having a good result fundraising on Daffodil Day in August, Mr Cotter said this year the Cancer Council had given him plenty of merchandise to sell. 

Cancer Council community programs coordinator Jennifer Mozina described Mr Cotter as a “passionate Cancer Council advocate” and commended his individual involvement with fundraising for cancer through such events as the Pambula Bike Show, and for helping out when they need him. 

The stall in Bega will be there from 9.30am to around 3.30pm, and another stall will be at Westpac Bank, Merimbula. 

Ms Mozina and Mr Cotter are having a meeting with Member for Bega Andrew Constance next week in order to discuss the Cancer Council’s Saving Life 2015 campaign.
