Worthy, who performs under the name of Chachi, needs as many downloads and listens on her Triple J Unearthed site as well as “likes” on her Facebook page as possible to win a spot on one of the stages at this year’s Falls Music and Arts Festival.
Not short of ambition, while Worthy said if she won the chance to play at Falls Festival she would be on a side stage, she hopes to be back on the headline stage one day.
“I just want to make music my career, that would be great,” she said.
“I’m the kind of person who listens to music 24/7 and dances in my chair in the office while at work.
“I love it, it’s my life.”
As she was growing up her father would often play Ella Fitzgerald, whose music became a strong influence.
As Worthy grew up, Kimbra became her biggest inspiration and she found her lyric style to be most similar to City And Colour.
The two singles she has released so far are called Bad Boy Blues and Sweetest Boy.
“Sweetest Boy is about how I had a crush on boy, but it didn’t go down too well – everyone seemed to like the song though,” she laughed.
Worthy said it has been a struggle to define herself as a musician who fits into one genre of music, but she found in the end the many different musical influences in her life have come together to create her own style.
“I don’t think that there are any other artists on the radio like me who can chuck 10 bazillion genres together and make it work,” she said.
“My music is happy, it’s fun and it’s something that everyone can listen to.”
Born in Bega, Worthy moved to Victoria aged eight but the majority of her family remain in the Valley.
Some of her best memories of the area are the burning hot summer days where she would get up at 9.30 at night to go swimming in the Bega River, and devouring frozen yoghurt from the health food shop in town.
Currently living in Melbourne, last month she graduated with a Bachelor of Music from JMC Academy and has been performing at venues around the city.
She is currently working on an EP titled Happy Daze, which will hopefully be released early next year and will possibly involve a tour up the East Coast.
