"Families today are busier than ever and the expectations on parents and children alike seem to be growing," Ms Botto said.
"Parents often feel the pressure of juggling increasing demands.
"It's not surprising that we can sometimes feel that we lose sight of what’s important for ourselves and our children," she said.
The Bringing Up Kids program has been developed by the Australian Childhood Foundation which is a not-for-profit organisation that provides creative resources aimed at ensuring that all children are raised in relationships that are safe, caring and respectful.
It is hoped that in the two hour sessions once a week over six weeks parents/carers will be encouraged to improve their communication with their children, promote more respectful interactions and encourage the development of children’s positive self-identity.
Independent evaluation of the program conducted by Deakin University found that parents reported a significant reduction in parental stress, a decrease in family conflict and significant increase in parental confidence.
So why not come along and enjoy some of the activities and discussions which will hopefully broaden your bag of tricks in your parenting story.
The program with be run at the Uniting Church Hall 125 Gipps St Bega on Tuesdays from 10am-12pm until November 18.
