This month Rotary Clubs celebrate Vocational Service Month to recognise professionals either in Australia or overseas who take pride in their work, and have achieved a high level of excellence and through their vocation, contributed outstanding service to their community.
The ED nursing staff were nominated for Rotary’s annual Vocational Service Award by the Bega Hospital’s ED career medical officer, Dr Shaun Favell.
Part of his nomination read:
“In Bega, It is easy to overlook the emergency nurse.
“It is easy to overlook their sense of community, their expanded role, their continuity of care, their skills beyond their grade, their wealth of experience, their compassion, their dedication to duty, and their silent, efficient, modest teamwork.
“It is easy to overlook the fact they have held together the emergency department through years of unreliable locum doctor service.
“It’s easy to overlook that what they do is not typical, not average, and not asked for.”
The citation was read to ED nursing staff when their received their Pride of Workmanship Award in Bega on October 10.
Bega Rotary said it was delighted to present the award on behalf of the Rotary E-Club of Greater Sydney.
Bega Valley Health Services general manager Heather Austin said the ED nursing staff were to be congratulated and were worthy of recognition not only within the health sector, but the wider community.
