The re-elected president Dave Allen said the club was excited to lock in a first grade and league-tag squad, with the possible inclusion of an under 18s roster in the line-up.
“We’ve got the league-tag, that’s a definite and the first grade is a definite,” Allen said.
“We’re going to try and push for an under 18s as well.”
A preliminary squad of players has come on board for the junior team, with the club hoping to fill out the ranks before the Group 16 deadline.
“It’s a big step for the club, but following the success of last year, we think it is the right move,” Allen said.
The club is excited to announce former Canberra Raider and Bradford Bull David Boyle has signed on as team manager for the newly formed first grade squad.
The club has also been in negotiations and is expecting to announce a first grade captain-coach shortly.
The committee has also been strengthened with the inclusion of Candelo’s Nathan Moon.
Meanwhile, Jamie Glenn will be treasurer and Simon Bateman takes on the position of secretary.
Allen said Lee Irvin and Mark Henry had done a “superb job” in the roles, but ongoing work commitments meant they could not take on the duties.
However, they will stay on the committee and be heavily involved in the club.
Last year’s sponsors have re-signed with the club and Allen said a number of new businesses had also expressed their support.
“We’ve had some more come on board, the support off the field is really good,” he said.
The club’s AGM finished with discussions of grant money (see story left) and the teams for next year.
Allen said the club will also hold a commemorative game at Candelo next year to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Candelo v Bemboka Group 16 final.
“We’ll have special jerseys that will be auctioned off similar to the brown jumpers, which was so successful,” he said.
