Organisers of an upcoming celebration ball would like any memorabilia of the 1954 opening to display on the night.
The ball will be held on December 13 and there will be lots of dancing on the night and an official opening by Richard Otton.
Anyone with photos or other memorabilia should contact Len or Rhonda Crowe 6492 1439 or Lena Pearce 6492 7231(at night).
It was in 1926 when Brogo citizens decided they needed a social centre.
Functions and concerts were held to raise funds.
Alf Johnston donated the block of land on which the hall was to be built, mostly by volunteer labour.
A system of petrol-fuelled lighting was installed.
Opening night was in 1928 and the place was packed with overflow dancing outside to a volunteer orchestra.
The hall was used for everything including church functions, church on Sunday, voting, socials, balls, meetings and send offs to anyone leaving the district.
Every serviceman on his way to World War 2 was given a night at the hall when on final leave.
Then on January 25, 1952, a disastrous fire roared through the district - the old Brogo Hall was gone.
It was decided to rebuild, but, as the insurance was not enough to cover cost, voluntary effort was needed once again.
Norm Healy suggested the use of a prefabricated building shed as a foundation.
The new Brogo Hall was officially opened by one of Brogo’s most prominent citizens, Jack Baldwin, on December 3, 1954.
It is this opening that will be celebrated at the ball on December 13.
