Former Bega Rooster and Tathra boy Dale Finucane has become a key element in the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs line-up and will be firing on all cylinders ahead of Sunday’s clash with the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
However, uncle Peter Finucane of Tathra has been a Bunnies supporter “since I was four years old”.
“I’m a bit torn to be honest – but I win either way,” he said with a laugh.
“We’re very proud of Dale, he’s done a great job and achieved so much.”
Although Dale has been understandably hard to reach aside from the occasional text message this week, Peter said his nephew was really looking forward to Sunday’s decider.
“He made the senior side and was on the bench for the grand final last time [2012 against Melbourne Storm], but he only got about 4-5 minutes match time.
“[However,] he’s really established himself now and started to get quite a few matches this year.
“He still plays off the bench for the most part, coming on as an impact player as others tire.
“He really made an impact the other night, scoring the winning try!”
As for his beloved Rabbitohs?
“They have a pretty awesome forward pack with Burgess and so on.
“They will be fairly evenly matched with the Bulldogs’ forwards, but I’d say Souths have a little bit more speed on the outside.”
