Organisers said the local squad, made up entirely of the grandkids of Joe and Eileen Aldridge, “played their hearts out” but ultimately succumbed to some strong teams from the city.
The eventual winners were the Dalai Dreamers from Armidale in a 12-6 match over the Newcastle All Blacks.
About 3000 spectators were on hand to cheer on the 10 teams in the men’s competition as well as three women’s squads and a number of junior teams.
“A great day was had by all, it showed the community pulling together for a great cause, Foster Care Week, which aims to raise awareness of what fostering is all about and the need for more Aboriginal carers across NSW,” AbSec CEO Angela Webb said.
“Thank you to the hosts, the Illawarra TitansRugby League Football Club, for all of their hard work and commitment to the day, it was just amazing.”
Webb also congratulated all the winning teams and thanked the sponsors for making the event possible.
The Kids in Care Cup is in its second year as an annual event and was hailed as a success by organisers over the weekend.
