- Bega Valley's Norma Allen and Liz Seckold are named on the 2014 Hidden Treasure Honor Roll.
AFTER so many years of unsung but invaluable volunteering work, Dorothy Mullaney has been recognised not once, but twice this year.
After receiving a Bega Valley Shire Community Medallion in August, Ms Mullaney has now been named on the 2014 Hidden Treasure Honour Roll.
In both cases she was nominated by Anne Sheedy of the Bega Hospital Auxiliary, an organisation where Ms Mullaney serves as vice-president and catering officer.
“She has been involved with so many different organisations over the years and worked so hard for each of them I feel she really deserved the recognition,” Ms Sheedy said.
Ms Mullaney said she was quite thrilled, but believed “there were more deserving people”.
One of 10 children, Ms Mullaney moved to Bega when she was 16 where she met her husband Ron.
As their four children grew, so did her volunteering roles.
She volunteered for the P&C and local sporting clubs where her children played, finding herself most weekends in the canteen or transporting bands of young footballers to games.
She later joined Bega Valley Family Day Care and served on the organisation’s committee for many years before becoming a life member.
After retiring she joined the Bega Hospital Auxiliary.
“I like to be busy and I can’t sit still so I thought I better do something after I retired or I would have gone crazy!
“I love working with the auxiliary, I’ve been president and had a few different roles but I’m currently catering officer.
“Sometimes all the volunteering when I was still working was a bit of a slog, but looking back they were good times,” she said.
