Coincidentally the day is International Talk Like a Pirate Day, so the children and staff will be dressed as pirates for the walk and are sure to have some pirate antics to share with you if you a brave enough to come up and say “Avast me hearties”!
The K-6 students, staff and parents will be walking from Tanja via part of Dr George Mountain, Kings Ridge, Reedy Swamp and Vimy Ridge roads, a walk of approximately 23km over forestry tracks and public roads.
The group hopes to arrive in Bega at Ayres Walkway around 3-3.30pm.
If anyone would like to make a donation to help the students support Oxfam, they can do so by sponsoring a walker or simply putting some cash in the donation bucket.
Since 1990, Tanja School students have raised over $23,000 for the Walk Against Want.
The funds raised are used for self-help projects amongst the poorest people in the world, providing things like access to clean water and education.
Visit the Oxfam website at www.oxfam.org.au for more information on its work or contact Tanja Public School on 6494 0122 for more information about its walk.
