Apps was named the NSW women’s player of the year at a gala dinner for the Brad Fitler Player of the Year Awards.
Apps said she was invited to the night as part of the NSW rep team and was not aware she had won anything.
“It is not something I expected, I never thought I would be here ever, I am still pinching myself,” Apps said.
It is something else to hear a local’s name called out alongside Jarryd Hayne and Ryan Hoffman.
Apps, a self confessed “Paramatta girl” was introduced to Hayne after receiving her award by a NSW trainer.
“One of the NSW trainers works at Paramatta so he just took me over to the table and we got some photos,” she said.
It was a thrill to meet some of her league idols, but the Hayne Plane was a highlight.
“I was very starstruck,” she said.
The national accolade comes after just one year in the full contact league.
“It is pretty crazy, it is overwhelming to think that it is my first year and getting that award out of everybody is mind blowing,” Apps said.
The night featured some big names of the NRL, but Bega’s very own shone like a star.
“Walking through after getting my award it was odd, I was just casually walking past Robbie Farrah and some of the boys,” she said with a laugh.
Already taking home some of the top accolades, Apps said her next aim is to make the run-on team for the Jilaroos.
“They pick 22, but they have to cut it to 18 including the interchange,” she said.
“I want to impress in camp ... just make the cut anyways.”
