The students gave a presentation of their plans to the chamber’s annual general meeting last week.
This was their opportunity for project management and to have a happy and celebratory family friendly Christmas in Bega.
It was thought at first that the Bega on the Go Christmas Christmas draw had lost its attraction but a survey of shoppers in town done by the students showed that people did like the competition but wanted a bit to do on the night.
So the students have decided on a revitalised Bega on the Go, now called Christmas Wonderland.
There will be decorations and a town Christmas tree.
The decorations will be reindeers and Santa Clauses atop the shops and the Christmas tree will be the one outside the court house, with solar powered Christmas lights and reindeer around it.
There will be a tree lighting ceremony.
October 30 is the date when shoppers can start competing in the draw and the big night will be on Decemebr 11 with entertainment provided by school choirs, individual acts from Bega High School students and three local bands.
The students are also hoping to have a number of food stalls in the gardens, a jumping castle, slushies and popcorn machines, face painting and hopefully a merry-go-round.
Rixon’s Arcade will be turned into an Elves’ arcade, a very special place for children.
The students will be supported by the Bega Lions Club as well as the chamber.
