Edge FM sprang from humble beginnings when to aspirant groups, Bega Valley Community Radio Group (formed 1991) and Sapphire Stereo Radio (formed 1993) came together.
Test broadcasts were commenced in March 1993, transmitting for two weeks from a recording studio in Upper St, Bega.
In August 1993 the studio and transmitter were moved to the present building at the Old Bega Hospital.
The group received their full-time Temporary Community Broadcasting License in February 1998 and broadcasting was extended to 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The long awaited goal of a full-time license was achieved in 2000and in 2001 the transmitter was moved to a much better position on Dr George Mountain, to the east of Bega.
This dramatically improved Edge FM’s coverage and greatly increased the potential audience.
The next big challenge on the horizon is the conversion to digital, although this may take some time.
Edge FM provides an eclectic mix of music and interesting programs and are always looking for new volunteers, you can present your own program or help out in the library, the office, or generally around the station.
