THE Bega Tennis Club welcomed the return of regular ladies tennis competition last week.
The first round of the Thursday spring competition got underway with 35 ladies listed in five teams of seven.
A new format has been introduced by Kim Tarlinton and the committee to combine the A and B grade divisions.
The idea is to allow less-experienced players to develop their game by playing with the competition’s veterans.
Games start from 9am and organisers are hoping to see everyone at the court ready to play by 9am, especially with warmer spring weather just around the corner.
“That would see play finished by 12.30pm each Thursday and home for lunch,” Brian Richards said.
There is still some vacancies for reserve players if you are interested in taking part.

The spring night competition is seeking nominations for the season, which will start on August 28 from 7pm.
A second night of grading is scheduled for September 3 for division one and two, and September 4 for divisions three and four from 6.30pm.
The format in the night competition will be unchanged from the last round, with four players per team.
Each member will play a game of doubles with each of their team-mates on the night.
In other news, the club has completed the upgrades to courts six and seven allowing for games to spread over the extra space.
“That should see early finishes on each night of the competition,” Richards said.
Previous players are invited to return and the club is welcoming any new members to the popular tennis competition.
Competition fees are $50, which covers the full season and a discounted membership is available to new members.
Past and new players are urged to nominate by contacting Richards on 6492 2010 as soon as possible.
Getting names in early will help organisers compile the draw for the start of competition on September 13 and 14.
