Despite valiant efforts, Reynolds and his teammates, Tony Bonnell and Tim Slater, were overcome by New Zealand and South Africa in their only two matches at the Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls Centre.
A tough first-round clash with the Kiwis started brightly for the Aussies on Monday night, with Reynolds and his men opening up a 4-1 lead in the early stages.
But despite the Australian’s continued good play on the unfamiliar, slow-paced greens, New Zealand claimed seven of the remaining 10 ends to run out 11-8 winners.
Not disheartened by the loss, Reynolds and his mates turned their attentions to a date with South Africa on Wednesday.
Cold and windy conditions hampered their chances however, and the Springboks came out of the blocks firing to put themselves in the drivers’ seat at 11-0 after six ends.
With Reynolds playing strongly, Australia began to claw their way back, but a count of four on the second last end condemned them to an eventual 21-9 defeat.
