Local writer/director Patrick O’Halloran is using a saying from his grandmother as inspiration to create a short film here in the Bega Valley as an entry into the internationally recognised Australian short film festival, Tropfest.
Titled Whippersnappers, it will be a film about youth, age and its somewhat surprising manifestations, the passing of time and its effect on towns and people.
Funding is needed for the shoot and as of Tuesday, $370 had been pledged towards the target of $1500 on the crowdfunding site Pozible, with 24 days remaining.
However, if the target is not met then none of the funds are processed.
The team behind the project is professional, and the actors from the local area intent on bringing life to the production.
Mr O’Halloran himself has over 20 years’ experience writing, performing and directing for theatre, and was named Best Director at Short and Sweet Merimbula 2013.
Director of photography Lee Chittick has worked in various Film Australia departments in the 1970s and worked on Tom Cowan’s film Life Class, filmed around Candelo.
A couple of assistants are still required to help with different aspects of the film set during shooting on August 16-17, and if anyone is interested in helping out and seeing how filming works, message the organisers through their Facebook page www.facebook.com/whippersnappers2014.
