Held in Eden Marine High School’s hall, the event is a brilliant showcase held over two nights of performing arts in our schools.
Principal of Eden Marine High School, Ian Moorehead, is proud of the commitment and work of the many children involved in bringing the performance together.
“We take immense pride in the work of the 560 children involved in the festival.
“The work of all of the teachers and students has been amazing and we have all benefited from the expertise of tutors and outstanding programs such as the residential Music Camp held in term 2,” he said.
By bridging the performances over the two nights, every school gets the chance to perform before a packed house of appreciative parents, friends and wider family.
High school and primary school students work collaboratively to bring the best to the stage, and learn together, and to highlight the opportunities and programs conducted in our schools.
Chairperson of the SCLC Performing Arts Committee and principal of Candelo Public School, Suezanne Bourke, says the performance quality of the festival is no accident.
“Students who have been part of the program since its inception, such as Year 11 student Joccoaa Lee, performed initially as a student from Bega West PS and is currently a student at Bega HS.
“Joccoaa shares her talent for singing and arrangement of harmonies with her peers.
“At the recent Music Camp she was a much loved and respected mentor for younger students.
“The SCLC Performing Arts Committee has representatives from each school and is a great source of professional development for teachers, both experienced teachers and new teachers,” Suezanne Bourke said.
“One of our music teachers, Suzy Johnson from Pambula PS, has been a part of the Festival program from the beginning, both as school item director and as the Combined Primary Schools Choir conductor.
“Sharing her skills and knowledge with her colleagues through these programs, Suzy also mentored our newest choir conductor, Hayley Fragnito who is working with the amazing Combined Primary Schools Choir.
“That is what the program is all about, learning with and from each other.”
The performances are being held at Eden Marine High School on Tuesday, July 29 and Wednesday, July 30.
