Here is what James had to say from the athletes' village in Glasgow, Scotland.
Can you believe its bloody hot in Glasgow? It’s brilliant! So its been a few days since my last update and I’m a bit all over the shop as to what we've done etc.
The highlights in past few days have included our team reception in Glasgow where Anna Meares was announced flag bearer. Personally I was pretty stoked as I met Anna 12 years ago at Manchester in her first games and she was so nice and since then has overcome some pretty decent adversity to continue to excel.
The only disappointment of course was our nomination Karen Murphy missed out. Like Anna, this is her fourth Games and she has medalled at every games she has competed in which is brilliant! But look let’s talk about the real highlight of the night.
Each sport had to nominate one athlete to join a group of athletes from other sports to sing the national anthem. Without hesitation, my roomy Timmy Slater put his hand up and excelled!!!
So much so he's now nicknamed "Buble". We've continued to train hard with regular match practice with a solid win against Wales, and a hard fought draw with England.
Speaking of England, their lead Bob bowls using his foot as he has no arms.
A photo is below and if you are friends with me on facebook, there is a video posted also. This guy is awesome!!
The most amazing thing is his control especially on a slow green. The only downside of this match was Timmy had to withdraw early on as he had sore knees from being chased by all his new found fans after his operatic performance lol. Anyway super sub coach Kerkow stepped in which was clearly his attempt to get into the team but Timmy has him covered even if he is a Commonwealth Games singles gold medallist (ho hum).
So in between training and functions I must admit I’ve been a bit of a bore trying to rest rather than get out and see the sights. I guess you could say I’m focused on being ready for competition....or just lazy haha.
Anyway today is the Para-sport team's day off which I’m enjoying immensely and tonight is the OPENING CEREMONY!!
Having been to one before i just cannot wait! Without doubt it was such a highlight last time. You never know I might even make it on tv! Speaking of which, Bowls Australia have detailed the Channel 10 coverage schedule of bowls at www.bowlsaustralia.com.au and it appears day 8 is showing up that our triples may be on WHEN we make the gold medal match.
Anyhow that is it for now but geez I’ve been getting a lot of well wishes so if I dont get back to you, it is not that I’m not thankful, as I truly am! Thanks again! Jimmy
