Tathra Sea Eagles president Chris Sly said a number of forfeits from the Sea Eaglettes meant their exit from the competition.
“That’s a Group rule, once you forfeit three times you’re out of the competition,” Sly said.
He said the club was aware of the rule and did not argue it.
“We were well aware of it and we don’t have any complaints.
“There was no hassle as far as we were concerned.”
Sly said the Group had been very lenient with the club over the season and other clubs had provided strong levels of support, too.
“They [other teams] were turning up and we would only have six or seven.
“Other clubs would lend us players, they’ve all been very supportive of us this year,” he said.
A number of injuries hindered the team, but Sly stressed they were off the field.
Meanwhile, a core group of female players has stayed on at the club and is continuing to train.
Sly said he was inspired by their drive for the game.
“The girls come and run the raffle, the ones we have got are very keen, they’re continuing to train even.
“Some of them come from non-footballing families they keep coming every week and learning the skills.”
The girls who are still with the club will assist with recruiting and selection of a team next year.
Sly said he was eager to see the club regain a women’s team after a less than ideal season all around thus far.
“The gates are important to the smaller clubs, we haven’t had the best year, but we’ve got plans coming together for next season,” Sly said.
