On Friday the Snowy Mountains Hwy was closed for a few hours between Bemboka and Nimmitabel, as was the Monaro Hwy between Bombala and Cooma, due to heavy snow on the roads including on Brown Mountain.
"Tried to get to Canberra this morning, got as far as Nimmitabel and had to turn around," Robyn Edmunds posted on the BDN Facebook page on Friday.
"About a foot of snow on the road and not much visual ability, cars stuck on the side of the road, two into the guide rails and a couple sliding down the road; about ten cars altogether."
NSW Police Media confirmed a car was stuck in a ditch on Brown Mountain at 11am on the day, but there were no injuries and the occupants of the vehicle were able to get out safely.
On Thursday night temperatures in Bega dropped to 0.2 degrees and only reached 12.8 degrees on Friday.
Things warmed up for the start of the weekend, but only a little as before 9am on Saturday there was a low of 7.7 degrees and slight rainfall of 2.2mm before temperatures rose to 14.7 degrees during the day.
Before 9am on Sunday the cold had increased again, with the temperature dropping to 5.4 degrees.
