The Kids In2Uni Program is designed to provide students, their parents and their teachers with a positive connection with the University of Wollongong and to ‘taste’ university life.
“By starting to work with students early in their schooling and planting the seed that university is an option, we are increasing the opportunities for these students,” outreach and pathways manager Kylie Austin said.
In the lead up to the event, primary school teachers have delivered a unit of work in their classrooms about making career decisions and the students have had visits by current university students who previously attended their local school.
While on campus, students will have the opportunity to participate in ‘Taster Sessions’ run by UOW academics, learn about the social side of university life and generally explore the campus.
Parents will also have the opportunity to speak with university staff about career planning, financial assistance and support for their children in accessing university.
Merimbula and Candelo Public Schools will visit Bega Campus on Wednesday, and Eden, Bermagui and Tanja Public Schools will visit on Thursday.
