The donations have gone to the Asylum Seekers Resource Centre in Melbourne.
“There were so many clothes and blankets, it was unbelievable,” Bega Valley Rural Australians for Refugees (BVRAR) coordinator Hallie Fernandez-Markov said.
“The room was packed.
“There are still things that haven’t fitted into my car.”
The clothing and blankets were desperately needed for these cold winter months, as the resource centre services over 2000 refugees.
While the majority of items were sent to the resource centre, the remainder will be distributed to the migrant community and those in need around Narooma, so will stay in the area.
Ms Fernandez-Markov said people have also been donating money to their cause.
She expects she will have around $500 made up of donations and fundraising efforts to send to the resource centre this week.
After two asylum seekers visited Eden High School in May, the school’s SRC chose to donate $200 to BVRAR, which Ms Fernandez-Markov said was terrific of the students to do.
BVRAR collected the clothing and blanket donations after making the call for them in June.
Locals added to the growing pile in Andrew Warren Associates throughout the month before they were transported to the resource centre last week.
