AN EXTRAORDINARY meeting of council will be held on September 24 to elect a new mayor and deputy for the Bega Valley Shire.

At Wednesday’s council meeting, councillors voted to adopt a meeting schedule that separated the mayoral election from a meeting discussing general business.
The election of a mayor and deputy mayor is an annual requirement, with the positions currently filled by Crs Bill Taylor and Russell Fitzpatrick respectively.
Councillors voted unanimously to hold an ordinary meeting on September 10, the extraordinary meeting and election on September 24 and the subsequent ordinary meeting on October 1.
The remaining meeting schedule for 2014/15 will also be decided at the September 24 sitting.
Bemboka pool
THE state of play at Bemboka Pool was raised during Wednesday’s council meeting.
The town’s pool has been closed since January after a chlorine leak and then the discovery of other infrastructure in need of repairs.
While Mayor Bill Taylor has made assurances the pool would reopen in time for the 2014/15 summer season (BDN, 7/2), the community remained wary of talk regarding the Bega Valley Shire Council’s full review of community pools, and had concerns over the Bemboka facility’s long-term future.
Cr Tony Allen asked council staff for a report on the progress to date on repairs to the pool.
His question was taken on notice by acting general manager Wayne Sartori.

Communications survey
IF YOU didn't get to the recent sessions looking into how the Bega Valley Shire Council communicates with residents, an online survey has been launched.
Do you have something to say about the way the council communicates with the community, or a suggestion about how local people can be given a better opportunity to provide feedback and discussion?
The short online survey has been released to allow for an open and frank assessment of the BVSC communications and engagement efforts to date.
BVSC communications coordinator Jeff Donne said the questions in the survey were used during the recent face-to-face sessions run by independent communications specialists Two Cents Group.
The survey is available online at www.surveymonkey.com/s/bvsc_engagement_survey, or phone the BVSC on 6499 2222 and ask for a printed copy to be mailed to you.
The survey is open until July 25.
