ON Sunday, the weather produced a great day for fishing and although the fish were a little shy some good catches were brought to scale at the Tomakin Fishing Club’s monthly competition.

The anglers who rose to the occasion were justly rewarded because of their patience and dedication.
The weather has been against the club’s anglers on most monthly outings this year and despite the blue water brigade’s failings, the rock, beach and estuary anglers have managed to pile on the point scores because of the lack of blue water competition.
The club acquired some new blood to its competitions this year and the competitive interest has increased.
At the moment the competition is wide open and it’s difficult to predict the winners in all areas.
The three species drawn from the hat for July’s competition were salmon, bream and nannygai.
Scott Rigby junior reeled in a 1.51kg salmon, Dale Evans brought in a 630-gram bream and president Phil Boneham landed a 160-gram nannygai.
Each angler was rewarded with $50 for their effort.
The senior cock-o-the walk was Trevor Brown with a fine 3.48kg snapper.
Brown also won the cock-o-cocks as it was the first chance last year’s cock-o-the-walk’s had to fish off for the grand prize.
Scott Rigby won the junior cock-o-the-walk with his salmon.
He also weighed in a 1.41kg snapper.
Hugh Johnston took out the rock, beach and estuary section with a 2.17kg snapper.
The club reminds anglers the Mighty Bonanza Fishing Competition is drawing near.
The October long weekend tournament will have substantial cash prizes for qualifying species in the senior and juniors and sub-junior winners can win sports fishing gear.
There will be lucky door prizes, secret weights and lure hand-outs for juniors that fished and failed to score.
So make this a family weekend, hop in and enjoy the fun.
The next monthly competition is on August 3 so until then keep those rods held high and those lines tight.
Good fishing.
