The book Too Many Elephants in This House by Ursula Dubosarsky and Andrew Joyner was read to children in public libraries all across Australia at 11am on the day.
Children aged from one to five attended at the Bega library and were read to by children's services librarian Anne Moore.
The children also sang songs and read more stories around the theme of elephants.
“It’s a great way to promote children’s literature,” Bermagui library manager Samantha Fenton said.
“The idea is to create an awareness and interest for reading by introducing children to reading early.
“It’s a good way to promote the libraries as well.”
