THE finalists for the ABC Delicious Produce Awards 2014 have been revealed and Tathra Oysters has once again been announced in the From the Sea category.
Tathra Oysters previously won the category in 2012, and in 2013 was one of the category’s finalists.
Over the past six months, the public and producers have been busy nominating close to 3000 entries from all over Australia.
Now in their ninth year, the awards continue to celebrate and reward the very best of Australian produce and are recognised among the most credible and important accolades in the industry as they continue to garner support from the country’s leading chefs and industry experts.
“Small, artisan producers are the real heroes of our food industry, and delicious is proud to have put so many great Australian products in the spotlight over the past nine years through the produce awards,” Delicious magazine editor Danielle Oppermann said.
“This year’s crop of finalists is no different – our state judges have unearthed the best their regions have to offer, and we can’t wait to discover which will be this year’s winners at our national judging.”
The state judges were tasked with selecting the best of their state in the Earth, Dairy, Paddock and Sea categories to send through to the final round of national judging.
“We’ve seen more artisan producers entering the awards than ever,” NSW state judge Alex Herbert said.
“Judging this year has really focused on provenance and the environmental impact of the producers, as well as their long-term sustainability.”
The finalists’ produce will be blind-tasted by a national panel of judges who will decide the overall category winners, revealed at a special event in Sydney on July 14 along with additional awards judged by the critics’ panel.
The full list of finalists appears in the June issue of ABC Delicious magazine.
