EUROVISION is such a fun show (SBS, Friday, Saturday and Sunday)!
It's kitsch and it's cheesy, but it's all done with such good humour and élan that it doesn't matter.
Of course this year’s Eurovision was very special to Australians as Jessica Mauboy was the guest artist for the second semi-final.
On Saturday night before the semi-final, SBS screened the hour long Jess Mauboy's Road to Eurovision.
It was a fascinating look behind the scenes of how just one short segment for the show in Copenhagen was initiated and produced, with Jessica, her family and all those involved in creating the new song, her costume and the choreography.
We also saw the media rush to interview her when she arrived in Copenhagen and her introduction to Princess Mary and her children before she went on stage.
She looked great and except for a slightly shaky start she performed brilliantly.
Of course Eurovision is known for the weird and the wonderful and this time both the weird and wonderful were tied up in one act – the Austrian entry.
Drag queen Conchita was svelte in a gold/silver shimmery gown, with her long black tresses, her beautiful eyes and – wait for it – her black beard and moustache.
Amazingly it all worked.
The song was great and Conchita was indeed wonderful, so wonderful that she took out the title and Austria won Eurovision 2014.
FOR three nights of the week there's a plethora of reality shows, all often all at the same time, with The Voice on WIN, Masterchef on Ten and House Rules on Prime.
The Voice is great fun when the audition phase is on, and the contestants face the back of four huge red chairs and hope desperately that one, or all four, of the judges swing around.
Having Kylie Minogue as one of the judges adds to The Voice's appeal this year.
After the auditions are over I never watch again, the mentoring stage doesn't appeal to me at all.
House Rules I watch on the first day the jobs are assigned and the last day for the judging.
In this show one team leaves their home while the other teams are apportioned section so the house to completely renovate and furnish it.
Professional decorators and the owners judge their efforts.
I never watch the in-between bits – so much anger, so much angst, so much bitchiness not only between teams, but the team members often turn against each other.
Masterchef I watch every minute.
