The grandfather of five and owner of Allied Express will represent Australia in the Amateur World Drivers Championships in Finland in July.
"It is an honour to be asked and you don't turn down an opportunity to represent your country," McDowell said.
"It is something I can put on the resume and it is something I can show the grandkids – me in the Australia colours."
The series will run across three meeetings at Riihimaki, Tampere and Helsinki. Each program will have three races.
"It is a random draw for drives, so I hope I can pick up a couple of good ones," McDowell said. "It is would be great to put up a winning photo in the Australian colours."
Anzac spirit to be honoured
The traditional all-trotters day meeting at Coolamon will take place on an upgraded track on Anzac Day.
Coolamon secretary Helen Turner said the club would hold a flag-raising ceremony before the first race.
“We always raise the flag and have a minute’s silence to honour the spirit of Anzac Day,” she said.
“There is a ceremony in town, too, in the morning, but we perform our own as well as a mark of respect. One of our former members [Lionel Dennis], who is still a patron of the club, served in the army and proved to be a tremendous help to us over the years.”
The feature event of the afternoon is the group 3 La Coocaracha for mares. The program includes the Coolamon Monte, Young Trouper, Oaks, Derby, Humbletonian and Trotters Cup events.
