COMMENTS on the Bermagui Woolworths development on the BDN website and social media continue to be divided, in spite of the more vocal No W in Bermagui getting an arguably greater share of the attention.
On Facebook, comments such as “The hungry beast lurks” and “Not a good idea. Very sad for local business” are countered by supporters of the development proposal.
Jason Lewington writes “It will be of great benefit to locals, especially pensioners who can't afford to pay the huge prices that independent grocers charge.
“It will also bring an increase in employment opportunities.
“Those saying it will hurt the town’s current business should then focus on pushing for more residential development.
“The more the town grows, the more business.”
Meanwhile, on Twitter, in @peterwhill’s opinion “I'd say the silent majority want it to proceed. It will "improve" Bermagui out of sight”.
@silvermullet also commented on the “silent majority” when they wrote “If by 'controversy' you mean a vocal minority and a supportive relatively quiet majority”, in response to the BDN’s earlier article on Wednesday’s council meeting.
“Woolworths development in Bermagui is not 'controversial' as u state in yr intro it is within #bvsc guidelines,” they added.
