Alister is a junior who is new to the area and this was his first day racing on an adult sized boat.
All of the sailors marvelled at his achievement, beating them on the club’s most challenging boat and winning through excellent boat speed and decision making.
The wind was light and flukey, which required the sailors to tack at the right moments to gain advantage.
As well as those difficulties, part of the boat broke and Alister improvised a repair mid-race.
Rob and Sian Morton’s MG14 won the first race ahead of Terry Kirby and Neil Fisher’s sabres.
Meanwhile, Alan Holbrook and crew Laine claimed third in race two.
Tony Hastings was the sole entrant in the multi-hull division, so the two wins extended his lead in the season pointscore.
The club's sailing training program continued in the morning, from 9am until noon.
The program saw the new sailors complete their first laps around a course.
The club welcomed the return of John Winson after an 18 year absence.
“It's good to be down here again,” Winson said.
He stopped sailing when he bought a pizza shop, and the hours conflicted with attending races.
He had built a new boat, a walla 5.4 trailer-sailor called First Knight.
Winson said the name was “because when we run the spinnaker, the jousting pole sticks out the front”.
The Wallagoot Lake Boat Club 2014 Regatta will be held this weekend.
All off-the-beach sailing boats are welcome to enter, including dinghies, catamarans and trailer-sailors.
