The Bega/Angledale Bulls are pulling ahead of the pack, while Tathra is slipping away if Saturday’s contest is anything to go by.
The Bulls took on the other competition front-runner in the South Eurobodalla Pirates, but were making their intentions clear on Saturday.
An early smattering of wickets that left the Pirates reeling at 4/35 had the Bulls in strong stead from the outset.
Josh Schaefer’s 27 was the Pirates strongest batting effort in an otherwise lack lustre showing, including two ducks, which netted them 104.
Alec Watson was in fine form with the ball in hand claiming six wickets including one of the Pirates big hitters Matt Corbett for a duck.
Meanwhile, Wayne Dunham was solid claiming three wickets, while Jack Allen took one.
With the Pirates all out, Bega/Angledale took to the crease with confidence and, at stumps, is just three wickets down for 148 runs.
Sean Lambert is leading the way for the Bulls with 53 not out.
Robbie Ringland added 35 and Cody Hazelgrove-Danvers scored 32 before the innings resumes next Saturday.
At the other end of the spectrum, Tathra will go to the second innings about 70 runs short of Pambula’s total.
Pambula’s 150 run target is not out of reach for the Maroons by any stretch of the imagination.
However, it does leave Tathra in the uncomfortable predicament of having to better Pambula’s score and then shut down the second innings quickly.
Shane Garrett was up to his usual tricks scoring 29, but it was young Bryden Unicomb who scored 47 for Pambula to reach a solid innings score.
The two Blackas in Dan and Adam shared the wickets with three each.
Adam also posted a solid score at the crease in Tathra’s first innings with 58 runs to his name.
However, Chris Dwyer and Ben O’Reilly were dismissed cheaply and Tathra was at 5/82 at stumps.
The second innings will resume on Saturday from 1pm with the Bulls playing at George Griffin Oval, Bega, while Tathra travels to the Pambula Sporting Complex.
