Project manager Andrew Stewart said the trees within the construction site and included in the approved demolition DA will be felled this week.
“The construction company has advised that the exact day and duration of the works will be dependent on weather conditions, contractor and equipment availability, and the speed of work,” he said.
“As required by the contract, the foliage and branches will be mulched for landscaping use and logs from the trunks will be taken to the BVSC depot for timber bridge repairs where practicable.
“We’ve notified the community previously of our intention to remove the trees, and we are now following up our promise to keep people informed.
“A notice is already up on our Facebook page, and local radio stations have been notified.”
Construction of the Bega Civic Centre is expected to completed by Easter 2015.
