Ms Chester, 21, from Bega, said it was a bit of a shock to hear her named called out along with fellow Zone 3 final winner Emily Witt at the formal dinner in Crookwell.
“It was definitely a shock – as people could probably tell from my face on the night,” she said.
Ms Chester was one of 14 showgirls vying to become the zone representative at the upcoming Sydney Royal Easter Show.
Despite being a relatively recent arrival to Bega, Ms Chester said she already feels “so comfortable and at home here already” and plans to share her passion for Bega and the area with a much wider audience in April.
As the zone winners, Ms Chester and Ms Witt will spend a week in Sydney, “visiting children in hospital, Government House and doing a lot of behind the scenes stuff at the show”.
That is in addition to the nitty gritty of the Showgirl Competition judging process like public speaking and demonstrating in-depth industry knowledge.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” Ms Chester said.
“Whether I win or not, it will be a really good experience to see behind the scenes and see things I wouldn’t normally get to.”
Cheering Ms Chester on in Crookwell on Saturday night were her parents, former Zone 3 Showgirl Jacinta Day and members of the Bega Show committee.
“It was great to see Brodie up there, she’s really done Bega proud,” Mr Pearce said.
“It’s a really great thing for the Bega Show to have our showgirl selected of one of two from this zone off to the Royal Easter Show.
“The last time we had a girl go to the Royal Easter Show was Jacinta Day in 2011.
“Jacinta came with us to Crookwell - there was a group of six of us [from the Bega AP&H] as well as Brodie’s parents, so she was able to offer some support and advice to Brodie.
“Brodie said she was so nervous her palms were sweating, but I think she had it under control.
“It was a great night at the Crookwell community hall, and congratulations to Brodie.
“Her mum and dad were so proud - her mum was so excited when Brodie’s name was announced.”
