James Macri left the chasing field of close to 100 swimmers in his wake during the second half of the men's Finns Pest Control Splash for Cash to cruise uncontested on to the beach.
On the finish line Macri said it was his third year competing in the Tathra Wharf to Waves event and winning the main event "felt pretty good".
The women's event - kept separate from the men by race officials due to colder than expected water temperatures - was a much closer affair with two women side by side the entire 1200-metre trip.
Matching each other stroke for stroke, Tara and Jane (more details to be confirmed) were only split when Jane stumbled in the breakers to allow Tara cross the line first.
Their efforts were applauded by a huge crowd on Tathra Beach as Tara claimed the victory after also winning her 30-39 age division race, while Jane was also the winner of her earlier age race, the 50-59 division.
More details to come.
