COMPETITORS in the George Bass Surfboat Marathon again faced challenging conditions on day six out of Tathra.
The leg saw boats and paddlers journeying the 27km from Tathra to Pambula, landing at Pambula Beach around 11.45am on Friday.
There was a northerly wind to help rowers, but plenty of chop coming off the rocks took away some of that advantage.
Narooma’s veteran men again overtook all crews ahead of them and led for much of the race.
However, they were beaten to the beach by the Bulli Open crew.
The result means Narooma has won the men’s veterans division for the sixth day in a row and are looking to a clean sweep on Saturday.
Bermagui rowed well again with its mixed crew, while the Tathra women’s veterans are unlucky not to have repeated their drought-breaking leg win on day three.
Due to a forecast southerly wind on Saturday, organisers announced yet another change in tack for this year’s marathon, with the final leg to run in the reverse direction, from Eden back to Pambula.
