Bega Bypass dedication ceremony Thursday

THE Bega Bypass will have its "official" opening and dedication on Thursday.

After several phone calls late Wednesday trying to see if there was any truth to a rumour, it was confirmed via a media alert from Andrew Constance's office.

The ceremony will take place on the grassy section near the northern roundabout - adjacent to Kirkland Crescent - from 11.45am.

The alert also set out the agenda for Thursday's ceremony, including speeches from Roads and Maritime Services representatives, Mr Constance, Member for Eden-Monaro Peter Hendy and Bega Valley Shire Mayor Bill Taylor.

A plaque is also set to be unveiled.

It is unclear why the public was not alerted to such a long-expected event with more notice, but a contact within RMS confirmed it is going ahead.

The bypass has been open to traffic since mid-October (click here for related story)
