The dynamic bingo calling duo “T and T”’ – in real life the mild-mannered Tracy Gorman and Tracey Gottaas - bought Nola Robinson and Bill Laurie out of calling retirement for the this year’s Christmas do.
“I think they are really enjoying being back,” Ms Gottaas said.
Given the twinkle in Ms Robinson’s eye as she called the numbers, Ms Gottaas was probably on to something.
T and T needed to put down the bingo microphone for the day so they could man the kitchen and create a delicious Christmas lunch for the club’s bingo players.
“We wanted to have a lovely spread and make everything from scratch, we’ve cooked all the chooks and made trifle and pav,” Ms Gottaas said.
T and T were helped by Ms Gottaas’ husband Nigel who was kept busy in the kitchen throughout the morning.
However, before the lunch it was business as usual for the club’s bingo players - very serious business.
With heads down and bingo markers at the ready, golfers coming in from the club’s green were gently shushed by players as they listened intently to numbers being called out.
Ms Gottaas said she and Ms Gorman have enjoyed calling the bingo this year, taking over from Ms Robinson and Mr Laurie.
“We were nervous when we started, but we both really enjoy it.
“We were worried we might lose some players, but we’ve even picked a few up and average about 50 players every Thursday,” she said.
Prizes include grocery items and vouchers, with Ms Gottaas thanking Woolworths for all their support throughout the year.
“New players are always welcome, we are encouraging people to bring their children or grandchildren during the school holidays.
“I used to come with my mum when I was little so I think kids really like bingo.”
“We are also going to have a ‘bring a friend promotion’ because lots of new people visit the area over the summer,” she said.
Bingo is held every Thursday from 11.30am until 2pm, with a lunch break from 12.30-1pm.
