THE newest member of the Rettke Building team in Tathra was recently named the recipient of a prestigious regional design award.
Last weekend at the Canberra Convention Centre, over 700 peers from the building industry gathered for the annual ACT and Southern NSW HIA Housing Awards.
Kristie Lee from Sketch Interiors and Design and Rettke Builders was in attendance as a finalist with her fiancé Tom.
With fingers crossed as awards were announced, a dream came true as Ms Lee was awarded the ACT and Southern NSW Bathroom Design of the Year.
Ms Lee has worked as a designer for over six years, much of the time self-employed.
She has been passionate about design her entire life.
“It was just so amazing and surreal to take out the award amongst such well-respected and well-known designers,” she said.
“My competition on the night included Sugar Design, who I had the pleasure of training under when I did work experience with Archertec Interiors Canberra, and whom I hold in high regard and respect.
“Other competitors in the category included MMM Interiors, who have recently been awarded the title of Australian Designer of the Year at the national awards held in Brisbane in May.”
Ms Lee said design can be challenging, and a lot of hard work has gone into getting to this point, “but I just love everything about my job and the whole industry.”
Ms Lee’s spectacular award-winning design became a reality through the help of the Rettke Building team, who were contracted to carry out the Tathra project.
Clients Sally and Richard Gallimore were also in attendance on the night and were absolutely thrilled with Ms Lee’s crowning.
“Our beautiful new ensuite and dressing room totally exceeded anything we had ever imagined,” Ms Gallimore said.
“Kristie is such a professional and just so easy to work with, she gave us everything we were hoping for and more - and all within our budget,” Mr Gallimore added.
Ms Lee will now be judged as one of only seven finalists from around the country in the Australian HIA Housing Awards in May.
