THREE Bega Valley cyclists have proven that age is no barrier.
Locals Andy Willis, Dominique Rideaux and Dave Mullens competed at the Australian Veteran Cycling Championships earlier this week.
The trio took on the gruelling 71 kilometre course at Paraparap, near Geelong.
In an impressive result, the three men finished in the top 15 in the 50-54 years age group.
Mullens gathered good speed to finish in ninth position, completing the course in just over one hour, 53 minutes and 24 seconds.
Only two seconds separated Mullens from his fellow locals, with Rideaux taking 13th spot and Willis finishing in 14th.
Willis said it was a good performance by the trio.
“It was a tough race with plenty of attacks throughout the race,” he said.
“We all held onto the lead group though to be in the sprint finish with only seconds in it.
“It was an excellent result in a quality field.”
Hosted by the Geelong Veteran Cycling Club, the Australian veteran championships were open to men and women.
The championship attracted individual time trial, road racing and criterium competitors.
Meanwhile, Rideaux will look to taste more success at the Australian Masters Games this weekend.
Rideaux will compete in a road race today, before competing in the criterium tomorrow.
