LOCAL Rotary Clubs have rallied together in their fight against polio.
This morning, 10 participants completed the first leg of a motorbike journey to raise funds for polio research.
Members from the district’s Rotary clubs rode from Merimbula to Bega via Sapphire Coast Drive.
It is the first step in a ride that will see them cover more than 1000 kilometres in the coming week.
One of the participants, Stephen Daniel, said they will ride as far north as Berry, before returning to Merimbula via the Southern Highlands, Canberra and Yass.
Mr Daniel said the journey had three key aims – to raise awareness about polio, sell pins to help end polio and gain new Rotary members as well.
Rex Koerbin, of Pambula, said Rotary was “very close worldwide” to alleviating polio.
The week-long ride will conclude next Friday in Merimbula, in time for the district’s Rotary conference.
For anyone wishing to purchase a pin in the fight against polio, Rotary has today set up a stall next to Littleton Cafe, Bega (facing Woolworths).
