GENDER lines separated the remaining councillors on Keith Hughes’ request the Bega Valley Shire Council support same-sex marriage.
At Wednesday’s council meeting, councillors voted on Cr Hughes’ notice of motion that the council write to NSW and Commonwealth Parliamentarians to support the legalisation of same-sex marriage.
While Cr Hughes hoped for unanimous backing to his motion, it wasn’t to be as Mayor Bill Taylor, Deputy Mayor Russell Fitzpatrick and Cr Tony Allen voted against the idea.
Crs Liz Seckold, Sharon Tapscott, Anne Mawhinney and Kristy McBain all sided with Cr Hughes.
Cr Michael Britten was absent.
