Gary Lonesborough received the Ladies Auxiliary award from Isabel Bobin, Jacinta Alcock the Frank Hunt award presented by Nola Robertson, Montahna Johnston the late Percy Wills award from Jo Jamieson, Joshua Bennett the late Keith Otton award presented by Barry Stoney and Miriam Zweck the late Fran Whyman award presented by Bob Whyman.
In announcing the recipients Mr Stoney said the awards symbolise the spirit of comradeship and looking after your mates.
“The only good thing that comes out of war,” he said.
Of the 20 applicants who applied for the scholarships, eight were selected for interviews from which five were ultimately chosen.
“These kids, along with all those here today, will go forward in life and make their mark,” Mr Stoney said.
After the announcement of the scholarships, Year 12 student and emerging author Gary Lonesborough presented a copy of his debut book Caterpillars and Butterflies to Mr Stoney, who accepted it on behalf of the Bega RSL sub-branch.
