A TICKET to grand final day is on offer this Sunday.
The Bega Roosters Rugby League Football Club has three teams competing in the Group 16 preliminary finals.
Bega’s first grade, reserves and under 18s will make the tough trip over Brown Mountain.
All roads lead to the Cooma Showground for a feast of crucial matches.
The Roosters already have one representative in the grand final.
The Bega Chicks ladies league-tag side won through after Cobargo forfeited its preliminary final.
All eyes will be on Bega’s first grade side when it takes on the Cooma Stallions.
The winner will book a spot in the decider, where it will meet the Moruya Sharks.
Bega co-coaches Ryan Apps and Grant Jessop have been busy with final preparations in the lead-up to the game.
At training on Tuesday, Apps told the BDN the Roosters were focused on the task at hand.
“It’s do or die,” he said.
“It’s an 80-minute test for us because last time we played Cooma, they slipped away and led 28-0 at half time.
“We know what’s at stake.”
The Roosters have traditionally been a strong finals team in recent years.
The side has reached the grand final on numerous occasions - including in 2008, ‘10 and ’11 - before falling at the last hurdle.
Apps said the Roosters hadn’t won a first grade premiership since 2001.
“We’ve come close a few times,” he added with a wry smile.
However, confidence is high in 2013.
Apps believes this is the best side the Roosters have fielded in recent years because it has adapted to modern rugby league.
“We’re an 80-minute side and we know we are a lot fitter than Cooma,” Apps said.
“Cooma are a big side, so we have to play their game.”
Apps also acknowledged the ability of Cooma’s young halfback Zac Smith.
He said Smith was the key because “everything runs off him”.
“Zac is handy so we’ve got to pressure him,” he said.
“He can cause you problems, but we have to intimidate him a bit.”
The Roosters will head out onto the field nearing full strength, with only Scott Ingram (suspension) and Brent Snowden (ankle) missing from their best line-up.
