A REPORTED armed robbery of Bega’s National Australia Bank this morning thankfully turned out to be nothing more than a hoax.
The police arrival and search of the bank provided an early morning spectacle for nearby shopkeepers and Carp St pedestrians.
Sergeant Jo Mayer of Bega Police said they were responding to a Triple-0 call, which turned out to be a hoax - perhaps by a disgruntled NAB customer.
Sgt Mayer and Senior Constable Vicki Emerton searched inside the building, while Senior Constables John Maher and Brad Ross conducted an exterior search before giving the all-clear.
Sgt Mayer said the hoax call was made from a Parker St public phone box and asked if anyone had any information or saw anyone near the phone box around 9.45am to call Bega Police Station on 6492 9999 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
