KALARU child Eli Morrison has turned his love of Lego into an artform.
In the lead up to the Far South Coast National Show, Eli, 6, spent three to four weeks constructing his own Lego city.
Eli’s dedication was rewarded when he won best overall junior handcraft at the 2013 Bega Show.
His mum, Meaghan Morrison, said her son was proud of his work.
“It’s a full-on creation,” Ms Morrison said.
“The city has got everything – a bank, baddies’ hideout, fire station, police, ambulance and more.
“Eli was happy with it and said there’s more to add to it.”
Ms Morrison said Eli loves Lego – in fact, he’s worked out a system to pay for his work.
She said residents from Tathra and Kalaru donate aluminium cans to their family, which they then take to the local tip.
The tip staff gives Eli money in return, which he then uses to buy Lego.
“It’s his Lego money,” Ms Morrison said with a laugh.
“Lego is his life – I’m very proud of him.”
Eli, who is in Year 1 at Tathra Public School, was one of the stars in the pavilion at the Bega Show.
On top of his best overall junior handcraft victory, Eli placed first in the 6-9 years decorated shoebox competition.
Eli also won two prizes in the art section – for a sculpture and a painting of Tathra Wharf.
