Adam set for Dogs debut

TATHRA’S Adam Elliott is set to wear the Canterbury Bulldogs jumper for the first time tomorrow.

Elliott has been selected in the second-row in Canterbury’s Toyota Cup side, which will meet the Canberra Raiders in a NRL trial match at Goulburn Workers Arena.

It is set to be a big day for the local rugby league community, with Bega’s Dale Finucane lining up for the Bulldogs’ first grade team.

When contacted by the BDN yesterday, Elliott, 18, said he was “pretty pumped” to play his first game for the club.

“I’m pretty excited and I’m looking forward to it.”

Since moving to Sydney late last year, Elliott said he had been working hard at the Bulldogs.

Elliott said the key was to build physical and mental strength.

“The Bulldogs are heaps professional, they look after the players a lot – I’m getting into the grind,” he said.

Meanwhile, Finucane is looking to make an early impression in his second year in first grade.

After making his NRL debut in round 13, Finucane, 21, held his position on the interchange for the remainder of the season.

Finucane had limited game time during the Bulldogs’ 14-4 defeat to Melbourne Storm on grand final day.

Elliott said he caught up with Finucane most days around the club.

“Dale keeps me grounded and he gives me something to aspire to.”
